{"id":406,"date":"2020-08-19T15:13:46","date_gmt":"2020-08-19T13:13:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/frantzmartinache.eu\/?p=406"},"modified":"2021-04-02T11:40:24","modified_gmt":"2021-04-02T09:40:24","slug":"kerne-publication-kernel-nullers-for-all-interferometers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/frantzmartinache.eu\/index.php\/2020\/08\/19\/kerne-publication-kernel-nullers-for-all-interferometers\/","title":{"rendered":"KERNEL publication: Kernel-nullers for all interferometers!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In this new study, led by PhD candidate Romain Laugier, our team has looked into what one needs to do in order to build a kernel-nuller, that is a high-contrast interferometric recombiner robust to residual piston excursions, for an array featuring an arbitrary number of telescopes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The paper takes advantage of nice graphical representations of the inner workings of a nuller called &#8220;complex matrix plots&#8221; (but that we&#8217;ve nicknamed &#8220;Laugier-grams&#8221;) to find the properties a recombiner must exhibit in order to be robust to piston perturbations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The same graphs were also featured a few months ago in a video recorded in French (first announced in <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/frantzmartinache.eu\/index.php\/2020\/04\/03\/kernel-nuller-video-explicative\/\" target=\"_blank\">this blog post<\/a>) and later translated into English that explains why the 4-beam kernel-nuller of <a href=\"http:\/\/frantzmartinache.eu\/index.php\/2018\/08\/28\/viking_paper\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Martinache &amp; Ireland (2018)<\/a> works.
